First do no harm.   As a basic principle of medicine, this is only common
sense.   Yet conventional physicians, who have taken a vow
that "the health
and life of my patient will be my first consideration," violate this principle
routinely by prescribing drugs that are more harmful than the conditions
they are supposed to treat.
Among the worst of these drugs are the pain relievers known as
nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
Used by millions of
arthritis sufferers, these drugs relieve pain by blocking enzymes that cause
inflammation.   However, since these enzymes also help build cartilage,
NSAIDs accelerate joint degeneration over time.
But NSAIDs don't just harm -- they kill.
About 10 patients die every day
due to gastrointestinal complications of these drugs. The majority of these
patients are chronic pain sufferers over
the age of 60.
So what should you do to relieve your nagging
pain?   Look to nature for a safe, effective remedy.
MSM Relieves Pain
Since at least the time of the ancient Greeks, physicians have
recommended sulfur-rich mineral hot springs for their therapeutic
properties.   The Baths of Agamemnon in Turkey still retain the name of the
Greek military leader who is said to have brought his wounded soldiers
here to recuperate.   However, you don't have to travel to a distant land to
get the therapeutic benefits of sulfur.   An up-and-coming nutritional
supplement is an ideal source of this essential mineral.
Methylsulfonylmethane, or MSM, is a sulfur-containing
compound that is
present in the atmosphere, in plants, in animals and -- as was
discovered a
mere 40 years ago -- in the human body.
According to Stanley Jacob,
MD, the co-discoverer of MSM and the first physician to use this natural
substance in the treatment of patients, MSM offers
a natural way to reduce
pain and inflammation without serious side effects.
  It is especially useful for
chronic pain conditions, including arthritis, back pain, headaches, muscle
pain, fibromyalgia, tendinitis, bursitis, carpal tunnel syndrome and TMJ.
MSM blocks pain messages that travel to the brain along nonmyelinated
nerve fibers called C fibers.   This results in relief of the deep aching pain that
is characteristic of arthritis and other chronic
conditions.   But MSM
alleviates pain in other ways as well.
It reduces the redness, swelling and
heat associated with inflammation, which in turn, relieves pressure on
surrounding nerves and other tissues.   It also relieves muscle spasm.
And Promotes Healing
MSM goes beyond mere pain relief to actually support
healing of injured
tissues by increasing blood flow.
It also alters the cross-linkages of
collagen, reducing scar tissue to promote
range of motion and flexibility.
If you suffer from arthritis or chronic pain or
are recovering from trauma or
surgery, I recommend a trial of MSM.
Start with 400 mg daily, in divided
doses, with meals.   This can be increased to 2,000 mg daily. MSM is
extremely safe and well tolerated, although some
people report minor
gastrointestinal discomfort at higher doses.
One hundred 500 mg. tablets sell for 3-4 dollars.   The best investment you may ever make.
